What is the Lining Paper Grading System? Lining papers come in a range of different thicknesses, making them suitable for different purposes. This thickness is given a numerical grade – the higher the number, the thicker the lining paper. A lining paper such as 800 grade then is a very thin lining paper whilst lining paper 1400 grade is a very thick lining paper, suited to more heavy duty needs. When Should 1400 Lining Paper Be Used? Without lining paper, these imperfections would show up underneath both wallpaper and paint but once covered in 1400 grade lining paper, these imperfections are perfectly disguised. Another common use for 1400 grade lining paper is to even out the walls. Where plastering is uneven, often caused through bubbles occurring during the drying process or through age deterioration, it can cause imperfections to show in the subsequent painting or wallpapering process. Thanks to the use of lining paper, the walls are evened out to leave a smooth finish. Finally 1400 lining paper can be used to cover marks or staining on the walls.
