When it comes to the world of interior design, it is just as fast paced as the world of fashion and as such it’s common for the trends to change whenever the seasons do. If you read any designer interior design magazine this month, you’ll see that the industry has already turned its attention to the summer wallcoverings trends. Here we give you the insider’s guide to what’s hot for your walls this summer.
Floral Print Wall Paper
Flowers are synonymous with the summer season so it’s no surprise to see floral prints being a major part of the wall coverings market this summer. The trend is for large, eye-catching prints which have been inspired by tropical islands. Take note of Hawaiian prints as these are key for getting the right look and the bigger the floral elements the better. Although foliage does have some part to play in the look, greens should be kept at a minimum so choose wallpaper with a few bright green elements instead of extensive subtle green foliage in the background.
When it comes to hanging the floral prints, choose a minimum of two walls to get the latest look. Ideally the walls should be next to each other and be the wall opposite the window wall and one adjacent. This will get you the boutique look of the season.
Wallpaper Colours
Colour is always important during the hot summer months and to achieve the 2013 in-trend wallpaper look the brighter the better. The main colour of the season is bright fuchsia pink but make sure it is fuchsia you choose and not a more muted coral or rose pink as these can leave you with a dated 80s chintz look when it comes to floral wallcoverings. Other colours to look out for are bright yellow and intense orange tones whilst purple is also highly fashionable. Colours to avoid this summer are blues and soft tonal shades of brown and grey as these have no place in the summer colour pallet.
Photographic Printed Wallpaper
In some rooms, highly floral wallpapers simply won’t look good, especially in a bachelor pad. This is where the other trend of the season comes into play. The second designer wallpaper look featured in magazines is the photographic print wallpaper trend. Inspired by major cities such as New York, London and Las Vegas, these wallpapers will feature busy city themes and wallcoverings where movement is featured such as blurred New York taxi cabs or moving Vegas dive are ideal for creating a fashionable look. When it comes to choosing the colour of these wallpapers, look for something in a high contrast black and white but with bold splashes of colour to brighten them up. Golden yellows will bring New York taxis and Las Vegas lights to life whilst bright red will make London buses pop.
Whichever style of wallpaper you opt for this summer, you’ll be sure of an eye-catching look.
