When asked for their ‘bucket list’ of holiday destinations, nearly everyone has New York on their list. Home of grand scale buildings, great characters and a multitude of things to see and do,  so it’s hardly surprising that it’s a must-see holiday destination for people of all ages. Once you’ve seen New York, it’s difficult to forget and many come back to the UK wanting to bring a little bit of the ‘Big Apple’ back with them. One way of doing this is to create a New York inspired room and we’re going to tell you how in five easy steps: Step 1: Introduce New York Wallpaper The fastest way to introduce a New York theme into your home is to buy New York wallpaper. There are several New York inspired wallpapers on the market to choose from and two of our favourites are the Muriva New York City Black and White Wallpaper and the Debona New York Photo Montage. The Muriva New York City Black and White Wallpaper pays homage to the stunning New York skyline, complete with grand buildings and the ever-present grey colour scheme of the city. It is perfect for creating a sophisticated look and works especially well in a formal dining room. The Debona New York Photo Montage on the other hand is a little more stylised as it features a montage of some of the most prominent New York landmarks. In a black and white colour scheme, it is also sophisticated and the wow factor is provided by the vibrant pops of yellow provided by the iconic New York cabs. This wallpaper works well in a more informal space like a study or living room. Step 2: Keep Your Design Urban New York is all about a vibrant city scape, the 24 hour hustle and bustle and endlessly long urban streets. It is therefore vital that you keep your look urban and edgy to achieve a true representation of the city. To do this, avoid natural colours like green or brown and instead opt for colours that reflect the urban landscape like shades of grey with flashes of more vibrant colours. Step 3: Use the Core New York Colour Scheme Colour scheme is vital when it comes to adding a piece of New York to your home. Using the predominant colour of the city, your room should be grey although that does n’t mean that you should overlook other colours. Time Square for example is an iconic part of the city that is bold and colourful. You shouldn’t be scared to introduce these colours into your home and it should be done through accent colours on home furnishings and accessories instead of as the core colour of the room. Step 4: Utilise Key Style Pieces Everything in New York is big and grand, this is part of the city’s charm. It’s therefore vital when attempting to recreate the look in your home that you appreciate the New York scale. In the living room for example, team an oversized sofa with a massive piece of artwork. In the dining room, choose the largest dining table that the room can take whilst in a bedroom, choose a grand mirror, king sized bed and oversized lighting. Step 5: Add Some Memorabilia Finally, don’t forget to add your own mementos from your trip into your room. A Statue of Liberty snow globe, replica New York street sign, or anything else you happened to have picked up from your travels. This will add an authentic look and touch of fun to your room.
