One of the key trends for the coming season is wild themed animal prints inspired by some of nature’s most dramatic fur and body markings. Amongst the favourites for 2014 are black and white zebra print and cow print, golden toned leopard print and khaki crocodile print. So, with such dramatic patterns, how can these be incorporated into a modern home? Well here we look at three key rooms in the home and how and where to use these prints.
In the Living Room
The most popular room in the home to utilise wild animal prints is in the living room. Typically one of the larger rooms in the home, the living room lends itself well to dramatic prints and heavily patterned designs. The best way to incorporate an animal print in this room is with a zebra print wallpaper. In a traditional black and white colour scheme, the zebra wallpaper can add a touch of depth to a room without making it look too busy. We recommend applying zebra print wallpaper like Debona Masai Zebra Print Black and White Wallpaper to the longest wall in the room to give the illusion of space. Keep the other walls white for a clean finish and complete the room with simple black accessories for a fresh design. If you wanted to take the look a step further, add zebra print cushions or other home furnishings for a bolder look.
In a Bedroom
The bedroom is a room where you can be a little more creative and whacky with your design choices as primarily the room is for your pleasure. The best way to incorporate wild animal prints is through the use of wallpaper or home furnishings in this room. We recommend applying a leopard print wallpaper like Fine Décor Furs Leopard Print Wallpaper in the bedroom. In a natural inspired colour scheme, this wallpaper will add warmth, depth and interest whilst still helping to achieve that relaxed look which is very much key to a bedroom design. More discerning than zebra print, leopard print wallpaper can be used on up to two walls to create a fabulous finish. To complete the look add brown and neutral toned cushions, curtains and bed linen for a grown-up and sophisticated look.
In a Bathroom
The bathroom is less often used to make bold design statements but that is exactly why animal prints work so well in this room, giving it that unusual, quirky edge. Green toned crocodile prints are perfect for a bathroom as they lend themselves well to a water theme. As wallpaper is not always practical in a bathroom setting, we recommend using accessories and artwork to bring the look into the room. Crocodile prints on the wall opposite the bath will add an elegant look whilst towels and other linen can add a softer look that ensures the bathroom still has an inviting finish.
