When your son was younger, he might have loved Thomas the Tank Engine, Disney Cars or space themed boys wallpaper but now that your son has become a teenager, he’ll be keen to have bedroom décor that reflects his age and his personality. Here we look at five great ideas for updating a teenage boy’s bedroom.
Wall Murals
Although wall murals have previously been synonymous with freezes such as Disney characters and more generic childhood imagery, this is no longer the case. Key brands such as Walltastic have identified a need for wall murals aimed at older children and teenagers and when it comes to choosing a boys wall mural for a teenage bedroom, there is a great range available. Why not be inspired by retro comic books and use a Spiderman or Avengers themed wall mural. Alternatively something like Star Wars or a world map can instantly turn a boy’s bedroom into a teenager’s bedroom. Plus as they come in panels, they are easy to hang and easy to change too.
Wallpaper Designs
As well as wall murals, there are also a wide range of boy’s wallpaper designs which are available specifically for this purpose. For a teenage bedroom, bold stripes work really well and there is a current trend for UK inspired wallpaper so red, white and blue stripes work really well. These can be used throughout a room or just on one wall. Try using another UK inspired wallpaper on a different wall for a great contrast yet in keeping with the overall theme. Other wallpaper ideas which will work well in a teenage boys bedroom this season are street art inspired wallpaper designs which feature brick walls and graffiti inspired imagery. These types of wallpaper are ideal for adding a hit of vibrant colour to a boy’s bedroom too.
Paint Effects
When looking at decorating ideas, you don’t have to limit yourself to just wallpaper or wall murals. Paint can be used to create a wide range of effects too. As mentioned, stripes are highly fashionable and different coloured paints can be used to tailor the look to suit your son’s tastes. Combine wide stripes with thin ones for a relaxed look that doesn’t look too staged. Contrasting woodwork is another hot trend this season so if keeping walls relatively plain, use an accent colour to highlight all the woodwork in the room. A wallpaper border is another way to liven up plainly painted walls for a great look.
So whatever your teenage son is looking for this season, you’ll be sure to conjure up an inspiring look using one or a combination of suggestions above.
