When you’re decorating a room in your home for the first time, it’s often a daunting process, especially if you are planning on removing wallpaper. Although wallpaper has come in and out of fashion over the years, it has also been used often to cover a multitude of sins on your walls. When wallpaper is removed, it’s the first time you see the true condition of your walls and although the majority of the time you’ll be pleased to see smooth, perfect plaster, especially in new homes, sometimes this is not the case. In this article we take a look at some of the common wall problems and how these can be overcome with the use of lining paper.
Uneven Walls
One of the main problems that DIY decorators find when removing wallpaper from walls is that the plaster underneath is not perfect. This can be due to the initial plastering process where bubbles or pitting occurred or due to a deterioration in the plaster over the years. The result is the same, uneven walls which make re-papering or painting a nightmare. Lining paper can be used as a solution to uneven walls and is considerably cheaper than having the walls re-plastered for an even finish. If you choose a relatively heavy duty lining paper such as 1000 grade lining paper from Anaglypta, you will be able to create a smooth finish, quickly. It is suitable for either painting or wallpapering over to allow you to achieve the desired look in your home.
Cracked Walls
When you remove wallpaper from a wall, you might notice cracks in the plaster or plasterboard below. There are two main reasons for this. The first is that the plaster dried too quickly when it was applied which led to cracks forming. The second is that although you don’t notice it, your home is constantly moving as the earth beneath it does which can cause movement in your walls and cracks to appear. Although slight cracks are nothing to worry about, they can make redecorating a nightmare as may show up when painted or create ridges under wallpaper. The solution is easy and comes in the form of 1000 lining paper from Erfurt Mav. This lining paper is strong to reduce tears or rips due to minute house movements and creates a great base layer for applying other wall coverings.
Marked Walls
Sometimes wallpaper may have been used to cover up painted or marked walls. This is not a good idea as the marks may show through subsequent wall coverings and may even leach into wallpaper in some instances. Although heavy staining should be covered with a sealer, Erfurt Mav’s lining paper 1000 grade will cover a multitude of marks, previous paint jobs or light staining and works out a lot less inexpensive than re-plastering the wall would. Luckily it is also easy to hang and durable too, allowing you to paint or wallpaper over the top with ease.
So next time you’re planning on removing wallpaper from any room in your home, stock up on some lining paper in preparation for what may lie underneath.
