Choosing what wallpaper to use in your child’s room can be a difficult decision. You need to strike a balance between something your kid will like and something they won’t grow out of too quickly. Here’s our five tips for getting kids wallpaper right:
  1. Avoid Cartoon Trends.
Your child might be a huge fan of Dora the Explorer, Peppa Pig or Bob the Builder today, but kids’ tastes are fickle and will probably not be the same a year from now. If you or your kid really wants a cartoon wallpaper try something that’s more timeless like Mickey Mouse or another Disney classic.
  1. Keep it neutral in the hard to change areas.
If your kid is big Thomas the Tank Engine fan, it might be tempting to turn their whole room into a Thomas themed hangout for them. But that could prove very costly when he decides he’s not a Thomas fan anymore. A more prudent solution would be to go for neutral coloured wallpaper, curtains etc and add Thomas themed accessories like cushions, a rug and bedding that can be more easily replaced. 3. Use colours that match well The traditional thing to do is to go for blue for a boy’s room and pink for a girl’s room. But, going all out over one theme, making everything one colour can prove problematic if a child goes off that colour. Instead, a more flexible solution is to opt for a broad colour palette that allows you to change elements without a complete redecoration.
  1. Only decorate one wall
Another way to avoid having to do a complete redecoration job when your child’s tastes change is to have one feature wall that you decorate using themed wallpaper or a children’s wall mural. If the other three walls are decorated in a neutral colour, they can stay the same.
  1. Keep it simple
My last tip is to try not to allow yourself to go too over the top about how you decorate your child’s room and remember that, most of the time, they will just be using it to sleep in. There’s no need to over think it!
