There are some things that you may be willing to cut corners on to save a little cash for today. However there are other items which cannot be done ‘on the cheap’ without huge repercussions further down the line. At Go Wallpaper, we believe that decorating is one of those items that is likely to go drastically wrong when you attempt to cut corners.
You spend a considerable amount of time in your own home and the fact that your home and its décor can affect your mood and your well-being is of significant importance. Done right, using the right materials, a newly decorated room might last for decades but if not done properly, less than a year on you might find yourself once again in decorating mode – wasting yourself both time and money which might have been better used on the project first time round.
When thinking about home décor brands and which will stand the test of time, one brand springs to mind – Lincrusta.
Lincrusta is a high end decorating brand which was launched in 1877. The mastermind behind the brand was Frederick Walton who was something og an inventor and entrepreneur in his day. For a number of years, Walton was associated with a remarkably successful floor covering known as Staines Linoleum. This hard wearing, practical floor covering was fit for purpose so what Walton began thinking about was other applications that would lead to equally successful results. Also, he realised that the same properties could be applied to wall coverings as well as the floor and so a brand was born.
This was the Victorian era where the upper classes had become to realise the importance of sanitation – eagerly looking for ways they could improve the cleanliness of their homes. A washable floor covering was something they had embraced so it was no surprise that Walton’s washable wall coverings, the first in the market, were perceived as a must have for the elite.
As well as manor houses and estates, there were other applications for Walton’s Lincrusta wall coverings and soon he was involved in decorating hotels, trains and even cruise ships. Lincrust was even used in six of the luxury suites on the infamous Titanic liner which met an unfortunate fate on her maiden voyage.
Today the Lincrusta brand is synonymous with high-end finishes and wallpaper that will stand the test of time. Made using mostly traditional technique and original rollers, the same care and attention to the manufacturing process still occurs today in Lincrusta’s purpose built Morecambe factory.
As well as wall coverings, Lincrusta have gone on to create other associated products too such as Lincrusta glue – all with the aim of creating beautiful finishes in the home that will amaze and delight not just for today but for years to come.
